The 74th Frankfurt Book Fair kicked off at the Frankfurt Exhibition Center in Germany.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest exhibition for the publishing industry. This year's book fair attracted more than 4,000 exhibitors from 95 countries and regions with their latest books, which will last until the 23rd.

This year's book fair is hosted by Spain. According to the organizer, this year's book fair will pay special attention to topics such as children's books, climate change, and the development of the African publishing industry, and will hold relevant seminars to showcase the development trends of media such as podcasts and audiobooks.

This year's Frankfurt Book Fair focuses on the theme of "translation", emphasizing the important role of translation in promoting mutual understanding across borders. Karin Schmidt-Friedrichs, President of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, said: "The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest fair for books and stories and an important event for mutual understanding."

China Book Import & Export (Group) Co., Ltd. organized 109 domestic publishing units to participate in the book fair with 990 kinds and more than a thousand volumes of fine publications and cultural and creative products related to Chinese traditional culture. They will fully display the latest achievements of Chinese publishing through book exhibitions, photo exhibitions, videos, and other forms.

China International Publishing Group (China International Publishing Group) brought hundreds of high-quality books and periodicals to the book fair, covering politics, history, culture, science and technology, Chinese language education, children's books, and other fields. They will also hold the launch ceremony of the book "The Record of International Fighting against Novel Coronavirus in Traditional Chinese Medicine" and various exchange activities.

The special status of the Frankfurt Book Fair can be traced back to the city's special place in the publishing industry for 600 years. In the mid-15th century, Johannes Gutenberg, a native of Mainz near Frankfurt, improved traditional book printing and published the first edition of the Bible here.

The printers Johannes Fust and Konrad Henckels took advantage of this printing technology revolution in Germany to gradually turn Frankfurt into the center of European book trading.

Surprisingly, although the prediction of "the publishing industry is dying" has been popular for many years, in 2015, when the global economy was down and the political situation was chaotic, the Frankfurt Book Fair was the largest in history and the most participating countries.

Among more than 7,200 exhibitors from 104 countries around the world, publishers from emerging countries such as Syria, Bolivia, and Cuba have also been added. In addition, countries such as Greece, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam also had the largest participation in the past years. The five-day book fair attracted about 300,000 visitors.
