Egret, also known as Little Egret and White Bird, belongs to the genus Egret of the family Egretidae. They live mainly in central and southern Asia, southern Europe, Africa and Australia.

The egret is a medium-sized wading bird with a body length of 55-65 cm and a body width of 86-104 cm when its wings are open. The mouth is pointed and straight, the neck is slender, the wings are large and round, the legs are slender, and the feathers are white as snow.

Egret mainly inhabits rice fields, streams, ponds and rivers and reservoirs. Nest and rest on the nearby maple, camphor, cypress, pine and other arbor trees. In a word, it is easy to see egrets in beautiful places surrounded by mountains and rivers.

They like to move in groups. During the day, they usually play with 3-5 or more than 10 in shallow water by the water. At night, they gather in groups of dozens, hundreds, or even thousands.

They often stand with one foot in the water, the other foot is tucked into the abdomen, and the head is shrunk to the back in a hump-like shape. When the egret walks, it is light and steady, and it appears to be calm. When flying, it is very handsome, with its small head shrunk to its back, its slender neck protruding downward, its feet stretched back and protruding far behind its tail, and its wings slowly flapping.

The breeding season of egrets is from May to July each year, and they nest on islands near the coast and on the rocks or among the dwarf tree branches on the coastal overhangs. Their nests are built on dwarf trees, and the highest height from the ground is no more than 1 meter, and there are also nests in the grass under the dwarf trees. 2 to 4 eggs are laid each time, the eggs are oval in shape and light blue in color. Eggs hatch in 24-26 days.

The crown feathers and feathers of egrets are often used for decoration, and their profits are very high. Driven by interests, some criminals always try to hunt egrets in various ways. The egret likes group activities and has weak defense ability. Therefore, the number of egret populations has decreased significantly in recent years, making egrets very rare to see.

Today, egrets have become a species on the list of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and we need to protect them.
