Deer family is a family of animals of the order Artiodactyla of the class Mammalia, which are mainly distributed in Eurasia, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, North America, South America and southwest Africa north of 40° south latitude. Deer are characterized by solid, forked horns. Generally, only males have one pair of horns, and females have no horns.

For every creature there is a signature that distinguishes itself from other creatures. The difference between deer and other animals is probably their pair of beautiful antlers.

Antlers are hard bones that protrude from the frontal bone above the deer's skull, and they are the secondary sex characteristic of stags. The biggest difference between antlers and other mammalian hairs is that antlers are living tissue. Antlers are made up of bones, where blood flows to give the antlers real life, so antlers cannot be trimmed at will. Many animals also have horns, but their horns never fall off for life. The antlers naturally fall off once every fall, leaving only the antler roots, which will grow back the following spring. Year after year, as the deer ages, its antlers gradually become larger and more forked, creating the beautiful and attractive appearance of the antlers.

Antlers are a weapon for deer to fight. When the deer find danger, the first reaction is to escape, but once they find that they cannot solve the problem by running away, they will use their horns to hit the enemy to protect themselves.

When the mating season comes, the stags fight each other for the right to mate, and the horns on their heads become their only weapons. In addition to helping bucks gain mating rights, antlers can also help them establish a "handsome and brave" image to attract more does. According to relevant observations, male deer with larger antlers do get preferential favor from female deer.

In fact, bigger antlers are not always better. The growth of antlers requires a lot of calcium, phosphate and calories. And the deer has such a huge antler, which is actually a burden, which will affect the agility of the deer's action, which is detrimental to its survival, so it is not that the bigger the antler, the better.

Deer antlers will slowly keratinize every year before they fall off naturally. At this time, deer will feel that the antlers are very itchy and uncomfortable. To ease the situation, deer often find something to sharpen their horns. For them, this process is a long waiting process, just like the tooth replacement period we have to go through.
