Hey Lykkers, are you ready for a peaceful adventure? We recently ventured through the rural landscapes of Whitman County, and it was a tranquil escape like no other!

From picturesque farmlands to charming small towns, we can’t wait to share the beautiful sights and stories with you.

The Iconic Palouse Scenic Byway

One of our favorite routes through Whitman County is the Palouse Scenic Byway. Imagine miles of rolling hills, golden wheat fields, and stunning views stretching as far as the eye can see. As we cruised along, we stopped at Steptoe Butte State Park. This park offers panoramic views of the Palouse region, and the sight from the top is a must-see! The park is open from sunrise to sunset, and entry is free, which makes it even more appealing for budget-conscious travelers. Don’t forget your camera—this place is a photographer's dream!

Perkins House – A Glimpse Into the Past

We also made a stop at the historic Perkins House, located in Colfax. Built in 1886, this beautifully preserved house offers a peek into the life of early settlers in the area. During our tour, we learned fascinating stories about the Perkins family and their contributions to the town. The house is open from May to October, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 AM to 4 PM. The ticket price is a very reasonable $5 per person, which makes it an affordable cultural experience.

Local Food to Savor

No trip is complete without indulging in the local flavors! We stopped by the Green Frog Café in Palouse, a cozy spot known for its fresh and hearty meals. We recommend trying their roasted vegetable sandwich for $8.50 or their famous smoked salmon salad for $12. Both dishes are packed with local ingredients and offer a delicious taste of the region. Pair your meal with a refreshing iced tea, and you’re all set for a relaxing lunch.

Practical Travel Tips for Lykkers

Whitman County is a rural area, so renting a car is highly recommended to explore its scenic byways and hidden gems. The best time to visit is between late spring and early fall when the weather is mild and the countryside is in full bloom. Pack comfortable shoes for hiking and exploring, and make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as some areas are quite remote.

With its peaceful landscapes, historic charm, and local delights, Whitman County is a perfect destination for those seeking a quiet and scenic getaway. We hope our stories inspire you to pack your bags and join us on this rural adventure!
