If one day you find that the cat in the house has lost its appetite, the owner will be worried. In fact, as long as you find out what is causing the cat's poor appetite, it won't be a big problem to solve it.

Irregular feeding

Cats like a stable life. If the owner frequently changes the cat's diet or feeding time and method, it will make the cat unable to adapt, and they will refuse to eat, which may also cause the cat's digestive system discomfort. The owner must ensure that the cat is fed regularly and quantitatively every day, so as to make the cat healthier.

Food not fresh

Dry food is easy to get wet and smelly in humid weather, and wet food is more prone to spoilage, which may make cats refuse to eat and even cause gastrointestinal discomfort. It is recommended that dry food can be bought in small packages as much as possible and stored in a sealed container; while wet food should be controlled in feeding amount. If you can't finish the wet food, throw it out, don't leave it there.

Oral problems

If everything is normal for the cat, but the cat is eating very little food and seems unable to do anything, the owner can check the cat's teeth. If there is redness and swelling, you need to seek medical attention as much as possible, so as not to cause other health problems for the cat. When cats eat, it is easy to hide dirt in their teeth, resulting in tartar and calculus, which can cause more serious oral problems. Usually, the owner can brush the cat's teeth regularly, at least 3-4 times a week, or give it freeze-dried snacks to help clean the teeth.

Gastrointestinal problems

If your cat is not feeling well, it may also cause it to not eat. There are a number of gastrointestinal problems that can cause your cat to lack appetite, including intestinal parasites, colitis, and gastroenteritis. Any of these conditions can lead to inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, which can also produce symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. But symptoms of various gastrointestinal problems tend to overlap, so you'll need some testing from your veterinarian to determine the underlying cause of your cat's digestive discomfort.

Adverse reactions

Cats need annual vaccinations to protect them from certain infectious and deadly diseases. But some cats react negatively to the vaccines that protect them. If your cat suddenly stops eating after being vaccinated, this may be a side effect. Loss of appetite due to vaccination, however, is usually mild and short-lived, and the symptoms tend to resolve within a few days.

Change to new cat food

It is fairly common for pet food manufacturers to make small changes to their formulations. But many cats have sensitive digestive systems, and even small changes in diet can cause digestive discomfort, causing them to lose their appetite. If your cat stops eating and it doesn't seem to be connected to anything else, look for changes in the cat food ingredient list. When changing your cat's diet, make the transition slowly to avoid problems such as digestive discomfort and loss of appetite.

Stress response

Not eating is one of the many symptoms of cat stress. If your cat is suddenly in a new place, or has been frightened recently, it's normal to not eat. Owners can observe for a few days to see if the cat's mood and appetite improve.

Some other cases

1. The breeding season of cats is in spring and autumn. The cats during this period suddenly stop eating and may be in estrus. This usually occurs in unneutered cats;

2. As cats get older, their ability to absorb and digest will decrease, and their activity will decrease, so the energy they need to take in will also decrease accordingly. In this case, it is enough to ensure that they can take in enough nutrients.
